Learn saxophone in Hastings!

Hello!

I’m Cath Roberts (they/them), a musician and artist based in Hastings. I’ve been working in improvised and experimental music as a performer on alto and baritone saxophones, as well as live electronics, for over a decade. I also do educational work, mainly in higher education, delivering sessions on group improvisation including directing the Experimental Ensemble at City, University of London since 2023.

And…I teach saxophone! If you’re reading this you’ve followed my QR code, so thanks for that. I’m looking to set up a new local teaching practice in my home town of Hastings, teaching one-to-one lessons to people who are interested in:

  • learning a new skill
  • having fun with improvisation
  • making some noise on the sax!

You don’t need any prior experience to start lessons. We’ll start from wherever you’re at, which could be the very beginning, or from a jumping off point of some past musical activities. Improvisation and listening will be front and centre from day one, alongside learning your way around the sax and getting some solid technique down. Lessons will be tailored to you and what you want to get out of playing the sax.

Lessons are £40 per one-hour session, and will be held in a studio in central Hastings. If we live close to each other and your neighbours are okay with it, lessons could happen at your house. You’ll need to get hold of a saxophone – I can advise on a beginner instrument that will get you started.

I look forward to hearing from you!
